Most awards and scholarships are awarded based on faculty committee recommendations, however there are some which students must apply for. Awards and scholarships that must be applied for are highlighted in red

Algonquin has agreements with the following universities, whereby graduates can apply their two year diploma credits towards a degree in Hotel Administration. Please see the program coordinator for more information.

In some cases, even without a formal agreement between the university and Algonquin, students can apply and obtain credits towards a university degree.

If students would like to apply to an Ontario university, they will need to set up an account, at the Ontario Universities Application Centrex. Click the icon on the left and explore the site. You will need to go to Undergraduate Programs and use the online application to set up a Compass account. This account includes applicant information as well as the universities and programs you are applying for. When all the information is properly entered, you submit it to OUAC, along with your payment, which is non-refundable.

Ryerson University, located in Toronto Ontario. Click the link here to explore admission requirements for their programs.

Guelph University, located in Guelph, Ontario. This link will give you access to the university programs.

University of Calgary - this university offers Algonquin graduates with a GPA of 3.0 or higher the opportunity to apply for the Bachelor of Hotel and Resort program with a $2,500 scholarship. Students can expect to complete 28 of 40 credits for a degree, and are required to obtain the equivalent of OAC Math and English before applying. National and Provincial Awards
The Canadian Hospitality Foundation awards Hospitality and Culinary Excellence across Canada. The awards this year totaled $74,000 which is raised by numerous sponsors. Information on the scholarships and awards can be seen at chfscholarships.com. These are substantial awards which are sponsored by Movenpick Restaurants ($2,500), Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association ($2000), Lipton Monarch ($1000) Labatt Breweries($1000) Grant Thorton,(2 awards of $1000 each), Groupex Systems Canada($1000), Canadian Pacific Hotels ($2,500), CHF (3 awards; $2,000 and 2 at $1,000), Jack Hurlbut ($1,000) Hobart Food Equipment ($3,000). The application process is now online and you can apply directly at chfscholarships.com.
School Wide Awards

Ottawa Tourism and Convention Authority/Ottawa Citizen Scholarship - to returning student of any school program; with a GPA of 3.7 or higher; good interpersonal and communication skills; volunteer or work experience in industry; potential to make a strong contribution to the Industry ($1,500.00 towards tuition for the 2nd year).

Thomas Nelson Hospitality Communications Award - to a second semester Hospitality and Tourism student who has achieved the highest grade in the second level English course (ENL1823 or ENL1942), while maintaining a good attendance record, demonstrating leadership capabilities and excellent interpersonal communication skills.

   

Bartending Certificate Program

The Royal Oak Bartenders Award of Excellence - to the student that best exemplifies excellence in their role as a bartender professional, has a minimum GPA of 3.0, participates in class, has a positive attitude and an overall high level of professionalism.

 

Gay Cook Bursary - Culinary, Baking and Hotel and Restaurant Management

The Gay Cook Bursary will be awarded to a financially-challenged student entering their third or fourth semester in the College's Baking Techniques, Chef Training, Culinary Management or Hotel and Restaurant Management Programs.  The bursary will recognize Gay Cook's unique talents and will be awarded to a deserving student who exhibits the ability to work with others, inspires cooperation and inclusion and shares learning.  The bursary will also reward creativity, enthusiasm and a passion for encouraging the quality of the Canadian Food industry.

Culinary Management Program

ACE bakery Scholarship - to the student who shows most promise, dedication and academic excellence in their first year of study in tech Culinary Management Program. The Faculty will select a recipient based on a GPA of 3.0, also on practical skills and a demonstrated dedication to Culinary Management.

The Canada Cutlery Award - This award is presented to a graduating student in the Culinary Management Program who has demonstrated strong leadership and culinary skills.

Charpentier-Hale Trophy - This award is in recognition of the top student in the Culinary Management Program.

Chances R Bursary - This bursary is awarded to a student registered in the first or second year of the Culinary Management program. The recipient has achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher and is actively involved in community events.

Event Management Program

The Terry Rogers Scholarship - to a graduating student in the Event Management who has a GPA of 3.0 The student must demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.

Hotel and Restaurant Management

The Chances R Bursary - This bursary is awarded to a student registered in the first or second year of the Hotel and Restaurant Management program. The recipient has achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher and is actively involved in community events.

The E. Harry Dugal Award - This award is presented to a returning student having successfully completed the first year of the Hotel and Restaurant Management Program. The recipient will have attained a GPA of 3.0 and be recommended to the Dean of the School of Hospitality and Tourism by a committee comprised of Program faculty members.

The GM’S Bursary Award - This award is presented to a student in the first or second year and has a GPA of 3.0. The student is actively involved in charity and or community events.

The Henk Hymans Scholarship Award - This award is presented to a student returning to the second year of the Hotel and Restaurant Management Program who has attained a GPA of 3.0. This individual has demonstrated professional promise, an ability to communicate, relates well with others, has strong organizational skills and leadership ability.

The Ottawa Gatineau Hotel Association Scholarship - This award is presented to a student who has successfully completed level 02 of the Hotel and Restaurant Management Program and has attained a GPA of 3.0. This individual is Hotel oriented and will possess excellent customer service skills.

The Ontario Restaurant Hotel Motel Association - This award is presented to a Hotel and Restaurant Management student returning to the second year of the Program who has demonstrated strong food, beverage and restaurant management skills.

Travel and Tourism Program

The AMEX Canada Inc. Award - This award is presented to a first year student in the Tourism and Travel Program who has demonstrated strong technical skills in Computer Reservations and Airlines courses, a professional and resourceful attitude, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to be a team player.

The Galileo Canada Award - Galileo Canada Distribution Systems Inc., in partnership with Algonquin College and the School of Hospitality and Tourism Program who has maintained the highest grade throughout all Computer Reservations courses.

The Maria Provenzano Award - This award is given to a first year student returning to level 03 of the Tourism and Travel Program who is conscientious, has maintained a minimum GPA of 2.0, is cooperative and helpful to others and who has fostered an atmosphere of participation in the Program.
