Release of Information Ontario Student Assistance Program
Please note that if you plan on having a family member or friend help you with your application Algonquin College needs to know that you have given us permission to share your information.

If you require assistance applying for OSAP (Ontario Student Assistance Program) you may contact the Financial Aid Office by phone for assistance 613-727-4723 ext 7678. 

Between the months of May to August you may make an appointment with a Financial Aid staff member to assist you in person with your application.

Apply early!  You DO NOT need to have an acceptance to apply.

Step 1
If you have decided that continuing your education is the key to your employment in Canada, we can help.  The advisors in the Academic Referral Centre (ARC) can provide you with FREE pre-admission advising to help you pick the best program option for you at Algonquin College.  To book an appointment: 613-727-4723 ext 5722 or Toll Free 1-800-565-4723 ext 5722.
Step 2

Apply online to OCAS for your program of choice at www.ontariocolleges.ca.  OCAS stands for Ontario College Application Services and anyone applying for full-time college programs in Ontario must complete this application.

Make a note of your OCAS number and your account login information.  You will need this information later to view your application status, to confirm acceptance of your program choice later or to change the program(s) that you wish to apply to.

OCAS is located in the city of Guelph in south-western Ontario, approximately 100km from downtown Toronto.  To view more detailed information about the application you may consult www.ontariocolleges.ca or contact OCAS by phone: 1-888-892-2228.

Step 3

You must pay an application fee, currently $85 for the 2008-2009 application cycle, before your application will be considered.  You can apply to any Ontario college on the ontariocollege.ca website.  Your payment entitles you to a maximum of 5 program choices with no more than 3 from any one Ontario College.

When paying your application fee online you may use MasterCard, Visa, American Express or online banking.  If you wish to mail in your payment you may mail a certified cheque or money order to OCAS.  Click here for full details.
Step 4

You will need to submit supporting documentation with your application.  For most applicants this means official or original copies of all your school transcripts both secondary (high school) and post secondary (college and/or university).  These documents should be submitted in the original language of issue and an officially translated copy.  The documents will be reviewed to assess your level of English, math and science education to determine their equivalency to Ontario standards.

There will be an additional $60 charge for this service, plus $10 if you wish for the original documents to be returned to you. 

Proof of English language proficiency must be supplied if the review of your transcripts does not show English equivalency.

Step 5

Check your application status and confirm your offer of acceptance to your program choice later by logging back into your account on the ontariocolleges.ca website.  You are also able to change the choice of programs that you wish to apply to.

Step 6

If OCAS is missing a document, they will email a request to you to submit further information that they in turn will send electronically to Algonquin College.. 


Algonquin College
may also request documentation from you directly by mail if you are applying to programs that have admission requirements beyond just transcripts.  A few examples would be proof of immunization, police record checks, letters of reference, information sheets, resumes or portfolios.  

If you have applied to a program that requires admission testing you will receive information about when and how to book your test at our Test Centre or with the department.  Applicants who live more than 40 km / 25miles from the College may elect to write their tests under the supervision of a staff member at an educational facility in their own area.

Step 7

Once all of your documentation has been received and evaluated by Algonquin College a letter of acceptance or rejection will be mailed to you.  If you have been accepted to more than one program, this is when you will have to make a choice about which one to attend.

Step 8

If you are accepted to a program you must complete confirm your acceptance declaring your intent to register. 

  • You will confirm at the ontariocolleges.ca website if you applied by computer. 
  • If your application was completed by paper, or it is impossible for you to get online,
Step 9

Pay your tuition fees to Algonquin College by the Fees Due Date and a timetable willl be created and mailed to you.  If you will be unable to pay your fees on time and you are not receiving OSAP, please contact your Client Service Officer..

If you have applied for funding assistance from OSAP then you may contact our Financial Aid Office at 613-727-4723 ext.7678 to make arrangements for a Fee Deferral.  This will allow qualified applicants to pay only $20 of their tuition and sign a contract while they are waiting for their cheque to arrive during the first weeks of the school year.
