Colleges Integrating Immigrants to Employment (CIITE) is a multi-year project being led by the
Colleges of Ontario Network for Education and Training (CON*NECT).  The CIITE project focuses on systemic changes within the Ontario College system that will improve pathways from pre-entry through to transition to employment for Internationally Trained Immigrants (ITIs).  An ITI may also be known as an Internationally Trained Newcomer or ITN.

There are five projects currently being funded by the Government of Ontario.
The projects currently underway are:

  • Admissions
  • Advisement Models
  • Credential Assessment and Advanced Standing
  • Language Proficiency (Assessment)
  • Employment Preparation.

Algonquin College the only college in Ontario participating in 4 of the 5 CIITE projects.

Algonquin College understands that currently the Ontario college system is not as well equipped to deal with the unique needs of the ITN community as it might be and we are committed to changing that.  Algonquin College was one of the first colleges in Ontario to develop, test and launch a Foreign Trained Nurse bridging program to address the needs of Internationally Trained Newcomers educated in the Nursing field.  Algonquin College has received almost $2.4M in provincial funding for new bridging programs and mentorship initiatives in the allied health care field, with many of the activities set to begin Fall 2006.
