Preparation for Regulated Employment Program (PREP)
Beginning in Fall 2006 this self-paced part time program assists individuals that have been assessed as eligible to challenge the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists credential exam to prepare for that exam. Students are provided with study material in areas such as mechanical ventilation, pharmacology, ethics in health care and health care legislation. In addition, students are given aid with study skills, exam writing skills and English specific to health care. Practice exams similar in format to the credential exams will be completed and reviewed to assist in credential exam preparation.

Polysomnography
This 100 hour, part-time course combines self-study, classroom learning, clinical simulation and experience in sleep studies. This includes night and day studies on a variety of patients. The student will learn to assist the physician in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders such as sleep apnea and insomnia. The graduate will receive a College certificate and be eligible to challenge the American Certification exams (the recognized exams for Canada) after the pre-requisite clinical experience. This certificate is required in Canada within three years of employment.

Cardiac Diagnostics
This 100 hour, part-time course combines self-study, classroom learning, clinical simulation and clinical experience in a variety of Cardiac Diagnostic test procedures. This included ECG, Cardiac Stress testing, Holter Monitoring and Cardiac Telemetry. The graduate will be able to work in settings such as hospital labs, clinics and research or private industry. Graduates will be eligible to write the Professional Association Certificate which may be required for employment.

Mental Health Nursing Certificate
Beginning in Fall 2006 this program for graduate nurses who are currently registered (or are eligible for registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario) is specifically targeted towards Internationally Trained Newcomers with a nursing background. Course material will cover a broad range of topics in how mental health is regarded and treated from the Nursing perspective within the Canadian medical setting.

INSIGHTS Course
Beginning Fall 2006 this new course provides an opportunity for students to develop insights into their own feelings about culture, values, beliefs and attitudes regarding grief and end of life issues. It is designed to be an interactive and transformative course that applies both group and individual activities in the process of learning, grief and healing.
This course will particularly assist internationally educated health care workers cope professionally with workplace realities specific to palliative care settings.

Enhanced Language Training for Internationally Trained Professionals -- Allied Health Care
The ELT program addresses the needs of the Internationally Trained to learn subject-specific vocabulary and workplace cultural information to help facilitate their language acquisition. The teaching concept is to use and recycle subject-specific vocabulary until it becomes part of the student’s repertoire.
