"Our Scriptwriting program is a unique opportunity to explore the world of film, theatre, television, radio, new media, broadcast and non-broadcast video," says Lynn Tarzwell, co-ordinator of the program.
"Content is king in this program and some of the courses include dramatic scriptwriting, new media and non-broadcast video, the history of film, drama techniques and business practices."
Algonquin College's script writing program encompasses writing for traditional print, radio, television, film and theatre arts, it also includes writing for new media.
The Scriptwriting specialisation aims to develop professional skills in the writing of dramatic scripts for film and television. "Our script writing students develop original projects," says Tarzwell.
"Presentation and discussion about pitching and treatment to final draft will be facilitated in discussion and written assessment by departmental tutors."
"There is no typical profile of a writing student," says Lynn Tarzwell, co-ordinator of the program.
"Our students come from journalism, from medicine, from film-making, from copy writing, from other university and college courses. They're any age, male or female and have some life experience outside the education system to offer. Our programs give the students a way of applying their talents and diverse experiences to a job situation."
Scriptwriting allows you to develop new ideas, discover your style and voice, learn to develop creative characters and write stories for any audience.
"We will help you make your script look professional, utilize comments and criticism in a supportive setting, develop marketing strategies and learn about contracts," she says.
