Algonquin College partners with Ontario Provincial Police
[December 12, 2002]

Algonquin College President Robert Gillett will sign a Letter of Understanding with Chris Lewis, OPP Chief Superintendent and Regional Commander (Eastern Region). This partnership will provide professional development training for Eastern Ontario OPP officers over the next five years.

Algonquin College receives Heidelberg donation
[November 27, 2002]

Algonquin College’s Print Media program will receive a state-of-the-art equipment donation from Heidelberg Canada. The donation includes a pair of two-colour presses and one state-of-the-art Computer-To-Plate (CTP) system worth in excess of half-a-million dollars. With this donation Algonquin College becomes the only learning institution in Canada to feature the new industry-standard CTP system in its curriculum.

Algonquin College's United Way Campaign touches down

Algonquin College celebrates the completion of its 2002 United Way Annual Giving Campaign with a Touch-Down Ceremony. This event will unveil the College’s United Way campaign total and thank those involved in this year’s campaign for their hard work and generosity.

Algonquin College staff / students get heads shaved for United Way
[November 4, 2002]

High profile College staff - Jim Kyte (former NHL hockey player), Andrew McKelvey, Public Relations Officer and Wayne McIntyre, Chair of Marketing and Management Studies at Algonquin College, along with 13 others, including Police and Public Safety Institute students will get their heads shaved for the first annual Algonquin College United Way Student Day to take place at the College tomorrow!

Algonquin College hosts Gala Awards night
[October 31, 2002]

More than 450 guests will be attending the Fourth Annual Awards Gala to be held Saturday, November 2, honouring over 70 Algonquin College students. Senior executives from local businesses such as Telesat Canada, the Ottawa Police Service and Randall’s Paints will present the donor-based awards and recognize these award-winning students.

Algonquin College opens Advanced Technology Centre
[October 23, 2002]

Algonquin College President Robert Gillett will officially open the doors to the College’s $23-million Advanced Technology Centre (ATC). The ATC will house Algonquin’s School of Advanced Technology (SAT), utilizing state-of-the-art technology to offer programs such as photonics, and network technology. The ATC is also the location for a joint Bachelor of Information Technology - Network Technology degree with Carleton University.

Algonquin College hosts fall Open House
[October 8, 2002]

More than 100 full-time career-training programs will be on display at Algonquin College’s annual fall Open House. Talk to faculty and staff about your goals and career options then take a guided tour of the Woodroffe Campus. Tours include a visit to the new $23 million state-of-the-art Advanced Technology Centre.

The 2002 Technology Fair showcases cutting-edge computer hardware, software packages and electronic devices from over 30 of the world’s leading high-tech manufacturers. Company representatives will be on hand to answer questions and demonstrate their latest products.

Algonquin College welcomes new students
[August 23, 2002]

School is in as Algonquin College opens its doors to a new school year. Algonquin College President, Robert Gillett, Students’ Association President, Krista Helman, and Alumni Association President, Sherry Thurig will be serving coffee and donuts to students at the Woodroffe Campus in the first day of classes.

ATI draws $20,000 scholarship winner at Renegades season opener
[June 27, 2002]

Algonquin Technology Institute, a Division of Algonquin College, will draw its "Career Kickoff Scholarship" winner at halftime at the Ottawa Renegades season opener. The scholarship to ATI is valued at an estimated $20,000 and will be drawn by Renegades CEO and Governor, Randy Gillies. ATI combines state-of-the-art facilities and Algonquin College resources to deliver fast-track cutting-edge technology programs.

On Tuesday, June 11, 2002, Algonquin College will graduate approximately 5,000 students at the National Arts Centre. The President of Algonquin College, Robert Gillett will preside over the presentation of diplomas and certificates.

Algonquin College launches online automotive training at Apprenticeship AGM
[May 7, 2002]

Algonquin College hosts the unveiling of the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities-funded Automotive Services Technician (AST) Online Training Project at the Heads of Apprenticeship Annual General Meeting. The AST Online Project is lead by Algonquin College and includes Canadore, Centennial, Durham, Fanshawe, and Sault College as participants. This project provides a basis for the development of "virtual colleges" across the province that will provide flexible, current, and relevant off-the-job training for apprentices registered in a number of trades.

Algonquin College hosts Interior Design show
[May 2, 2002]

Algonquin College’s Interior Design students will strut their stuff at their 24th annual Interior Design Grad Show. Students graduating this spring from Algonquin College’s three-year Interior Design program will have their work on display for the public and representatives of Ottawa’s interior design industry. This is the first time in the history of Algonquin’s Interior Design Grad Show that the event will be sponsored solely by the students and faculty.

Algonquin College launches school in China
[March 26, 2002]

Algonquin College President Robert Gillett will sign a Letter of Intent with Yu Min Hong, President of New Oriental School, to offer Algonquin College’s two-year Computer Programmer program in Beijing, China. This partnership will see upwards of 600 students taking Algonquin College’s Computer Programmer program in Beijing this Fall, with a future potential of 10,000 students studying several programs in seven cities across China.
