Two Pembroke Programs Change to One-Year Format

Training for a career in business or computer programming can now be done in less than a year at the Pembroke Campus of Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley. The campus is changing its traditional two-year format for two programs, Computer Programmer, and Business, to a one-year format to better meet the needs of its students.

Algonquin College Apprenticeship students strike gold at skills competition
[June 18, 2003]
Three Algonquin College Apprenticeship students have proven yet again that Algonquin College equips its students with the skills for success. Carpentry Apprenticeship student Brandon Jordan and Automotive Service Technician Apprenticeship student Chris Capowski both won gold medals while Plumber Apprenticeship student David Smythe took home bronze at this year’s Ontario Technological Skills Competition held in Waterloo, Ontario, at the end of May.

Algonquin College Interior Design students win Shaw Carpet Award

Students in Algonquin College’s Interior Design program have won the inaugural Shaw Contract Carpet Creative Design Award at its Annual Grad Show. Awards are given to the top three designs submitted by teams of two first-year Interior Design students. Maryanne Lowe and Erin Shanks are this year’s recipients of the first-place award, consisting of a trophy and $750 donated by Shaw Contract Carpet, to be split between them. |
Algonquin College Convocation

Algonquin College will graduate close to 5,000 students this spring. Over 2,000 students will be on hand to receive their diplomas and certificates at Algonquin's convocation ceremonies at the National Arts Centre on Sunday, June 8, 2003, and Monday, June 9, 2003. Algonquin College President Robert Gillett will preside over the presentation of diplomas and certificates.

The College’s ongoing applied research activities in the School of Advanced Technology, the School of Media and Design and the School of Health and Community Studies were featured through presentations and demonstrations in labs on the College’s Woodroffe Campus. |
Algonquin Times continues award-winning streak

The doors of Algonquin Students’ Association’s $3.6- million Algonquin Fitness Zone officially opened today on Algonquin’s Woodroffe Campus. Algonquin College student receives national scholarship

An Algonquin College student has recently begun her second semester at Algonquin College after receiving the Garfield Weston Merit Scholarship for Colleges (GWMSC) national-level scholarship from the Canadian Merit Scholarship Foundation (CMSF). Algonquin College is one of over thirty Canadian Colleges participating in the GWMSC across Canada.

Algonquin College launches Bachelor of Applied Business degree

Algonquin College is pleased to announce that the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities has approved the College’s proposal to offer an Applied Degree in e-Business Supply Chain Management (eSCM). Commencing in the fall of 2003, this four-year program includes eight academic semesters and three paid co-op work terms, as well as the student-use of laptop computers. The first eSCM students will graduate in the fall of 2007. |

Algonquin College has created three new options for foreign-trained nurses seeking employment in Ontario. Algonquin’s Foreign Trained Nurse Program is designed to assist nurses who have been trained outside of Canada to be able to practice in the province’s health-care sector. |
Commercial Pilot program moves to spring intake

The Commercial Pilot and Aviation Management Program at Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley is moving to a spring intake. The program, which has had a fall intake for the past two years, will now begin in early May.
