Algonquin College Opens First-of-a-kind Health Science Simulation Lab

Algonquin College has opened an innovative Health Science Simulation Lab, the first of its kind in Canada, that is expected to revolutionize the country’s approach to nursing education.

Since 1990, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario and the Hamilton, National Capital Region and Toronto Regional Groups of the Institute of Public Administration have encouraged and recognized excellence in public administration in Ontario by annually awarding the Lieutenant Governor’s Medal of Distinction in Public Administration.

Algonquin Transportation Technology Centre Addresses Skills Shortage
[Oct. 6, 2004] 

Representatives of all levels of government were at Algonquin College today to officially open the College’s new Transportation Technology Centre.   "Skilled trades today offer exciting and financially rewarding career opportunities that are in increasingly high demand," said Robert Gillett, President of Algonquin College. "Algonquin’s new Transportation Technology Centre reflects the College’s commitment to offer high quality training in an area that has been identified as essential in today’s economy."

The Algonquin College Heritage Institute (Perth Campus) will host its annual Spring Open House Saturday, April 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This is a good opportunity to view displays of projects completed by the Heritage Carpentry and Masonry students.

Folding Association Breathes Life Into New Algonquin College Foundation

When the Performance Management Professional Association (PMPA) in Ottawa recently decided to fold its operations, members had to decide what to do with funds that remained in their coffers.

Don Mann Bursary Established at Algonquin College
[March 24, 2004]

On March 17, 2004, the Ottawa New Car Dealers Association presented a cheque to the Algonquin College Foundation to establish a bursary in memory of the late Don Mann. The Association’s $20,000 gift was matched dollar for dollar by the government’s Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Fund (OSOTOF) bringing the value of the donation to $40,000. The cheque was presented to Algonquin College President Robert Gillett and Algonquin College Foundation Chair Barbara Farber.

Algonquin College Alumna Receives Province’s Highest Recognition

Susan Schmaltz, a graduate of Algonquin College’s Early >Childhood Education (ECE) Program, has won a 2003 Premier’s Award in the Applied Arts - Community Services category for her work on behalf of children in both Canada and Guatemala. Mrs. Schmaltz is the fifth Algonquin alumnus in six years to receive a Premier’s Award.
