For most programs, qualified applicants are considered from November through to
September as long as places are available.
In the case of programs for which the number of qualified applicants far exceeds the
number of available spaces (i.e. highly-competitive (oversubscribed programs)), the College identifies
selection criteria such as a test, questionnaire, portfolio and/or essay on the basis of
which applicants can be rank ordered.
Applicants who apply to highly competitive (oversubscribed)
programs by the February 1 deadline are treated equally and are rank ordered on the
basis of their performance in the screening process. After the February 1 deadline,
qualified applicants are accepted as long as places are available or are waitlisted
according to their date of application.
For some programs, the
selection is based on the average of the grades earned in the subject-specific
courses required. For these programs, the College follows the following
procedure:
- If only one subject
is required (e.g. English only) applicants will be ranked on the
basis of that grade, from highest to lowest, and selected, until the
seats are filled, placing the balance of qualified applicants on the waiting
list. If the applicant is currently registered in the course and
there is no grade available, the College will use the grade of
highest academic senior credit the applicant has attained, for
ranking purposes.
- If more than one
subject is required (e.g. English, mathematics, biology, chemistry),
the grades for the required subjects will be averaged, and
applications will be ranked on the basis of the average, from
highest to lowest, and selected, until the seats are filled, placing
the balance of qualified applicants on the waiting list. If the applicant is
currently registered in one or more of the required courses, the
College will use the grade(s) of highest academic senior credit(s)
the applicant has attained, for ranking purposes.
Applicants currently attending a semestered secondary school
are encouraged to complete, in the first semester, the subject-specific
requirements for the programs to which they are applying, in order that
final marks for these courses may be used in the selection. If this is
not possible, the College will follow the process outlined above.
Applicants currently attending a post-secondary institution
will have their marks for the Fall Term only used in the selection.
Only those marks which appear on the transcript will be evaluated and
used in the selection process.
Applicants must successfully complete all required courses
and meet any minimum grade requirements (if applicable) by August 1,
unless advised otherwise.
