AAADD is a program designed to offer various courses to adults with an intellectual-developmental disability. The overall goals of the program are to build academic and social skills within a College environment.

AAADD is a 4 year program that runs 41 weeks per year, beginning at the end of August and running through to the end of June. To facilitate entry into the program, there is a continuous intake policy.

The program objectives are to enhance literacy and numeracy abilities as well as to build social skills. Upon admission, an assessment will be completed in both literacy and numeracy. The purpose is to provide the student with material corresponding to his/her own personal need. Once the objectives have been determined, the student will continue to work independently at his/her own pace with the assistance of the class Counsellor.

Apart from offering the literacy and numeracy classes, the day program offers a variety of other courses and activities (not offered in the evening). Classes involving group work and discussions are Current Events.

Upon starting the program, the first semester serves as a trial period. It provides an opportunity to determine if this is “the right match”. Students will be evaluated based on attendance, punctuality, motivation, behaviour and progress. Upon meeting all requirements, the student will advance to the next semester.

Report cards are done twice a year, once at the end of the fall semester (December) and the second one, at the end of the spring semester (June). Upon completing the program, students receive a Certificate of Attendance.
