Teachers of Adults: Literacy Educator - Certificate Program
Program Overview
The Teachers of Adults: Literacy Educator program is designed for individuals already working or intending to work in the field of adult literacy. It would be of particular interest to paid or untutors and instructors, as well as certified teachers currently working in community, school board abd college literacy and upgrading programs. Also, individuals interested in working in the adult literacy field.
The program consists of seven courses specifically written and designed for independent study. Each course has its own learning module and supplemental readings. Resource
materials to supplement optional activites and assegnments are also available.
Special designed modules introduce students to course concepts through a series of interactive activities. Student self select activites according to their own needs and intereset in the subject area. Regular contact between student, facilitator and fellow students will be made in weekly scheduled Learning Circles.
The Learning Circles are facilitated by a faculty member.
They provide participants with the opportunity to discuss issues and to share each other's expertise. Additional contact can be made via the telephone, e-mail and listserve.
Transfer of academic credit and prior learning assessment for life and work experience are options, for those who qualify, which could lighten and possibly accelerate the certificate's completion.
Normative hours are required to complete the learning objectives of a course.
Fees
Fees are charged on a course by course basis.

A graduation fee of $30.00 will be charged when all required courses are completed and a application of completion is submitted by faculty.
