Interview - Paul Moroz

Why are you climbing Kilimanjaro?

Because I am there?? Actually, I happen to teach a course every Summer at a medical school in Moshi, Tanzania, and this year Ben and Shauna’s climb just happened to be near the time I teach my course. So Clare and I thought we should go with Ben and Shauna and the rest of the team to share the challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro and at the same time supporting some of their worthy causes.

What are your personal goals related to the climb?

I love being in the mountains: Alberta, BC, Nepal, Bhutan, South American Andes, grew up near "the mountain" in Hamilton. Now I will be able to add the highest mountain in Africa to the list. The biggest reason is I can spend 9 days with my wife Clare who I never seem to see because of our busy lives. So I hope we all make it to the top, but secretly I especially hope that I make it to the top because I have had altitude sickness before in the Himalayas at 16,000 feet and Kili is 3000 feet more than this!!! My other little secret is to beat Clare to the top. Oh no, we're not competative!

What’s the funniest/strangest thing that’s ever happened to you?

Where do you start?

Tell us about an accomplishment that you’re proud of.

I have made it to age 50 with a wonderful healthy family and what could one ask for more.

Is there something significant in your life that you’ve overcome?

Living!
