SSC1786 – Contemporary Issues in Indigenous Society

Course Description

The contemporary situation of Indigenous Peoples in Canada is presented. Students survey a number of topics,
including Indigenous rights, self-determination, self-government and the treaty-making process. The relationship
between Indigenous cultures and the Canadian government is examined in conjunction with colonization,
Indigenous resistance and change.
Course selection points to consider: 50% of the final mark in this course is based on a research assignment. 10% of the final mark in this course is based on participation.
This is a level 2 course. We recommend completion of ENG4C prior to start.
