10th Annual Applied Research Day (April 13, 2012)

Algonquin College's Office of Applied Research and Innovation

Poster Format Guidelines

Each poster must be mounted on a hard-backed, display board. The poster board will be hung on the 8’ curtained wall behind your display table. (We will provide the hooks).
Your poster must be one single page, and must fit on a 32”H x 48”W display board. Groups working on funded projects may have their poster board covered by their project grant.  Please provide your budget code to the Print shop.

  • One font works best. Try to use Arial, Times New Roman, or Garamond.
  • The final version should be PDF scaled to fit the poster dimension, to make things easier for the print shop
  • Use at least 96 point font for the title, and at least 48 point font for subheadings
  • Try to use at least 36 point font for the text (it should be readable from 3’ away)
  •  Don’t overuse text – point form and bullets are preferable to full paragraphs
  • White background is preferred; please stay away from dark-coloured background as it makes the text hard to read
  • You must include Algonquin College’s logo in black and white. Please follow the graphics usage guidelines. Colour versions can be used pending our approval. See http://www.algonquincollege.com/directives/GraphicStandards/usage.htm
  • Try to use only a few colours
  • Please use graphs, charts and/or tables to show results.  Use high resolution graphics and pictures
  • If your project is funded through the Office of Applied Research and Innovation you can use Applied Research and Innovation's logo in colour, as seen below. Please use the single page postscript (eps) file at http://www.algonquincollege.com/appliedresearch/ARILogo-BESTVERSION.eps, or click the logo below to display a high resolution image if you can’t use EPS files.
  • Your poster should be brought to Algonquin College's printing shop with budget code by 2:00 P.M. April 3rd.

  • Acknowledgments

Booth Guidelines

  • You will be provided with one table and tablecloth (as indicated on the registration form)
  • You must identify your electrical power requirements when you register.  We will have power bars, however it would be helpful if you bring a backup.  Please note that it is important that you list the equipment you will be plugging into a power source so that we can ensure sufficient power for all displays.  Some items that heat up may draw more power and the electrician will need to ensure the correct power source reaches your booth.  You will not be allowed to plug in something unless it has already been identified on your booth registration form.
  • You need to be specific when describing your display setup on the registration form so that we ensure appropriate floor space is available.  Otherwise, you will be limited to the surface of your table for display purposes.
  • The gym will be ready at 6pm on Thursday, April 12 for you to set up your display.  You will not have access to the gym prior to that time.   Please set up as quickly as possible and test your electrical needs to ensure everything works properly.
  • There will be security overnight so your equipment will be safe.

The set-up time is currently after 8pm on Thursday, April 12, 2012.
You have a second option of setting up between 6:30am – 8:00am on Friday, April 13, 2012
