In-Class Projects The Office of Applied Research and Innovation has funding available to support In-Class Projects where students work for marks, not money. Most of these funds are available for projects where students work with clients from the College or external to the College on applied research projects that help the clients further develop their organizations. For profit companies are a key target, but some funds are available for non-profits and community organizations. A limited amount of the funds have been set aside for student entrepreneurs working on their own projects – either as In-Class Projects or outside the class (however, the funds are not to pay students). Applied research projects encompass a wide variety of activities and include products, processes and services. Every program is potentially eligible to participate. Examples include marketing research, web application development, product design and manufacture, health care applications etc. Teams composed of 2-4 students are encouraged, as are interdisciplinary projects. Programs already working with clients are encouraged to consider this opportunity as a way to provide some funding for the projects. Applications for funding of In-Class Projects are now being accepted by the “Algonquin Applied Research Funding Program” (AARFP), which disperses funds on behalf of funding organization. All the applications need to be submitted on the In-Class Project Online Application Submission system, to submit an application for an In-Class Project(done in a course), please check HERE. The funding opportunities and project grants available are shown in the table below (you will find it on Page 19 – 20 in the In-Class Project Manual, see Guidelines below).
Most projects require a client, either from the College or an external partner. For profit companies are strongly encouraged, but not-for-profit, government and community organizations may be considered. Generally some cash and in-kind contributions are required from the partners. Further guidelines can be found in the link: Guidelines. If you have any questions or would like more information please contact Tina Zhou at zhouf@algonquincollege.com or x2522. (Please forward the URL to all project team leaders.
