Guidelines for Assessing a Research Ethics Board Application at Algonquin College
1. It must be clear who is doing the research, what their affiliation with the College is, and
how they can be contacted.
2. An appropriate administrator must be aware of this research and its ethical implications.
3. The level of risk must be identified. If not a minimal risk study, then a complete
presentation to the REB must be made. If deception is being used it must be completely justified.
4. Previous REB reviews must be declared and the results submitted to the REB.
5. The purpose and importance of the research must be identified.
6. The subjects of the study, the method of selection, and what subjects will have to do must be identified.
7. The research process must be described using the form Application for Ethical Review of Research
8. A College Informed Consent Form must be submitted describing the researchers, purpose, importance, participation, risks, benefits, compensation, protection of data, guarantees of anonymity, and an explicit statement as to the voluntariness of participation.
9. Power relationships with the subjects must be disclosed
10. Anticipated methods of dissemination of the results must be disclosed.
11. Conflicts of interest of any kind must be declared.
