J.P. Lamarche

After working as a secondary school teacher in the Ottawa area for 5 years, J.P. arrived at Algonquin College in January, 2002 as a part-time English professor for the Career and College Preparation Department.  Since then, he has established himself as a full-time faculty member in the School of Business.  After volunteering as a picket captain during the 2006 strike, J.P. became involved with OPSEU Local 415 as a steward and most recently as the Chief Steward for the College.  This position has afforded him the opportunity to interact with both middle and senior managers on an almost daily basis.  In addition to dealing with labour relations and the College, J.P. has been proactive in representing faculty and the Local on a number of committees across the College.  His experience with dealing with management has given J.P. the background and skills needed to be an effective voice for faculty.  J.P. was appointed as the faculty representative to the Board of Governors on March 6, 2008.
