How did you get started?

Dan is a retired veteran of the Canadian Army and was looking to pursue his photography interest as a second career. He has always had an interest in photography so for the last 2.5 years Dan has been collecting clients for weddings, small events, and photo booth set ups. Dan can create any custom backdrop for the photo booth and brings all the materials, so all you have to do is have fun.

How has Algonquin help grow your business?

Dan is a recent grad from the Entrepreneurship grad certification. Algonquin has offered him many opportunities for growth. He has many connects in the photography program, receives referrals for jobs and is excited to continue to attend the AC Markets in the future.

How did you get started?

Zena attended an art workshop in Grade 11 which was based on jewelry making. She found it very interesting and even a bit stress relieving. She started making jewellery in November of 2014. Zena does online orders through Tictail.

How has Algonquin help grow your business?

Zena is in her first semester of the Business Management and Entrepreneurship program. Her professors have helped her grow personally and have shown her it’s good to put yourself out there. This is her first AC Market and at first she was a bit nervous but overall, she is happy she went through with it.

How did you get started?

Before Jess moved to Ottawa, she held a career as a daycare teacher. During an art session, Jess was making Calm bottles with the children. The children thought the bottles were too heavy, so she decided to make them more portable through jewelry. Jess has attended 3 markets, showing off her products. You can find her at tradeshows and craft fairs in the Ottawa area. She will be in Westboro and Kanata during the month of November.

How has Algonquin help grow your business?

Jess has taken the ECE program at Algonquin and was really interested in promoting her business. She heard about the AC Market but was unsure how to get involved. She reached out during clubfest and found out all the details!

How did you get started?

Katrina has been practicing her services for the past 7 years, mainly on friends. She has worked for local spas in Ottawa as well as a cruise ship. Katrina is a graduate of the Esthetics program at Algonquin. She is available for mobile services to your home, or set up at her home. She decided to create this service because she didn’t see too many others out there doing it and it allowed for more freedom when dealing with her schedule. She will have her website running soon, so make sure to check her out!

How has Algonquin help grow your business?

Katrina is currently enrolled in Business Management and Entrepreneurship, in her 3rd semester. Algonquin has offered great programs for Katrina to strive in and is currently the President of the Entrepreneurship Club. This club has been a great opportunity for Katrina to network and meet new students. She loves the supportive professors who always offer one-on-one time. Algonquin has been an amazing well used resource for Katrina.

How did you get started?

Still in the developing phases of his business, Brandon wanted to create a product that can help us sleep and change the way we sleep. He has developed a mock prototype and has all the information regarding how it will work, now he just needs to know if there is interest. The sleepmask has multiple settings to alter your sleep. These include: relax, breathe, clean, sleep, focus. The mask analyzes your brain waves and can help change your dreams to ensure an energizing night sleep.

How has Algonquin help grow your business?

Brandon is a member of the Robotics Club at Algonquin and it has helped him create his vision for Mindull. He was testing his product at the AC Market to see what type of interest he could generate.

How did you get started?

Melina doesn’t consider herself as an established business yet. She started out making crafts and jewelry at a young age and loved it. She would buy jewelry kits when she was younger and make whatever she could imagine. In time, Melina started painting and practicing other skills of hers. Melina specializes in making earrings, necklaces and medicine pouches. You can also find some beautiful dream catchers and eventually she would like to start making wallets.

How has Algonquin help grow your business?

Melina is enrolled in the Library Information Technician program at Algonquin, in her second semester. She is an active member of the Entrepreneurship Club and wants to continue participating in the AC Markets. She finds that they are a good opportunity for students/vendors to display their product for free. She is looking for feedback to determine what works and what sells, as well as meeting new people and putting herself in the open.

How did you get started?

Sophia started this business to bridge the gaps for non-profit organizations. She realized there was no real connection for networking for them. She considers OON a link for all non-profit, business professionals and entrepreneurs to get together and discuss anything. She is striving to help create, build and sustain growth within the business to business community. Sophia hosts presentations and help with expanding your organization to others.

How has Algonquin help grow your business?

Sophia is an alumni of the Personal Support Worker program and is an Event Planner by trade. Algonquin has offered her so much support through student connection. She has been able to see how Algonquin supports an entrepreneurship-centered atmosphere and enjoys the feeling. She has been to a couple of the Entrepreneurship Club events and has networked at them, which much success. This is Sophia’s first AC Market and she is thrilled to have been a part of it.

How did you get started?

Peppermint Canada started out as a home business with the two sisters. They saw the trend for the business idea and found a great deal online with the legging shipments. Once they started getting their name out there, they have been growing ever since, which was approximately 2 years ago.

How has Algonquin help grow your business?

One of the sisters has taken an English program at Algonquin which was a great tool for the duo. They have had great success with booking tables and Algonquin to help promote their business.

How did you get started?

Sabrina was asked as to create a shopfiy account for a class in the BME program. She decided that she liked the page and wanted to continue with it, and actually make the page live so she could make sales. Sabrina makes beautiful hand-crafted dream catchers of all sizes and colours.

Sabrina is enrolled in the Business Management and Entrepreneurship program, semester 3. She believes all the professors are so helpful and they all have their own specialty. The professors have been so amazing at pointing out new trends and pushing students to pursue new ideas.

How did you get started?

Cristina started her business when she was living in Toronto, over 15 years ago. Initially, she started selling at private and home parties. Cristina uses all different types of material that ranges from new or old jewelry. She can produce custom orders or fix any broken or old jewelry. So far, she has no come across any business similar to hers.

How has Algonquin help grow your business?

Cristina is a grad of the Business Administration – Marketing program at Algonquin, 2013. Algonquin helped her succeed and understand business models. She learned how to price her products and what value clients want to see delivered to them. Cristina also mentioned that she loved the professors in the program!

How did you get started?

The students of the Graphic Design program host an end of year Grad show for anyone to come out and view their work that they have completed. The students who were representing the table at AC Market are trying to raise funds for their end of year show as well as get some of their fellow student’s work out in the public.

How has Algonquin help grow your business?

The students representing the table are in their 5th semester of the Graphic Design program, here at Algonquin. They love the networking aspect that Algonquin offers, as well as the passion. You are constantly in an environment with like-minded individuals which allows for constant personal growth.
