An Introduction to Vascular Access

Participants identify and differentiate between central venous accesses devices (CVAD) available in the Ottawa-Carleton area. The theory, anatomy and indications for use are reviewed. A demonstration of site care, dressing changes, blood sampling, changing cap, flushing and discontinuing is completed with an opportunity for the participant to practise these skills during the lab time. Complications associated with CVAD and how to prevent them are also discussed.
