Children in Care and the Law
Children and youth rely on their care providers to meet their physical, emotional and psychological needs. Students investigate the legal principles and concepts surrounding children in need of protection. Through case studies, assessments and in-class learning activities, students develop the knowledge and skills to recognize risk factors and assist in developing basic plans of service that focus on risk reduction, safety and optimum development of children and families involved with the child welfare system. Students become familiar with the Child and Family Services Act and accompanying regulations to enabling them to work with children at risk.
