With the announcement of a different model for transcript production in Ontario, the Attorney General's Office requires all court transcriptionists to be certified. Individuals who have familiarity with and have worked within the Ontario court system but who are not certified will want to take this advanced course designed to meet the more experienced student's needs. Students learn the transcription procedures required to produce certified transcripts from all Ontario court jurisdictions according to ministry standards set out in the legislation, regulation, policy and practice directions. Students also learn the basics of operating an independent transcriptionist business. Mock court proceedings, mentoring and hands-on experiential learning are core elements of the course and structured to assist students to acquire the knowledge and skills required to become authorized court transcriptionists. Note: Students must have their own laptop with Microsoft Word installed, a CD-ROM or DVD player, sound card, headset and a foot pedal.
