The focus is on the theories that attempt to explain criminal behaviour. Classical, biological, psychological and sociological theories are examined. Students become familiar with criminal statistics and their uses. Patterns of adult criminal activity in Canada and the reactions of society are studied. Students gain an understanding of the impact of criminological theory on the functioning of our criminal justice system.
