Being able to work within a group effectively is an essential interpersonal skill required in the helping professions. This course is concerned with the process of group interaction. Students develop skills which allow them to operate more effectively in groups and to communicate more clearly. The focus is on group functioning, leadership, the factors involved in group cohesion and group conflict, communication systems, emotional styles and group role function. Experiential learning processes are incorporated where students learn about group processes by actively participating in group exercises in class.
