Introduction to Small Engine and Marine Mechanics
This course takes students through the basic theory and operation of 2 and 4- stroke marine engines (inboard, outboard and jet), as well as common boat hull types and boating terminology. Topics covered include basic electrical theory, mechanical theory, fuel systems, ignition systems, rigging and propping, maintenance and off season storage. The theory portion of the course is delivered in a computer lab/classroom and the practical portion is held at the instructor's marina. At that time, students have the opportunity to service their own engines during the practical portion of the course if desired. This course is also suitable for people wanting to learn about small engines (lawn mowers, chainsaws, snowmobiles etc).
