Logistics and Transportation

Course: MGT5193

The dependencies between procurement, operations, transportation and customer service are covered. Students learn how to balance the trade-offs for large order sizes to achieve low unit costs with the competing pressure to order small sizes to minimize warehouse space and inventory obsolescence. Warehousing issues, as well as the advantages and limitations of the four modes of transportation, road, rail, air and water (as well as intermodal transportation) are addressed. The fundamentals of INCO terms 2010 and their impact on buyer-seller responsibilities for transportation are also examined.
