Maternity Operating Room C-Section Training

Course: NSG1200

This course focuses on the skillset required of obstetrical and perioperative nurses in order to provide safe and comprehensive care to women having cesarean section births. Students discuss incidence, indications and complications of cesarean section delivery, as well as the steps of the surgical procedure and nurses' roles. Principles of aseptic practice, including infection control, decontamination and sterilization of patient care supplies are explored. During the lab component students gain knowledge of specific instrumentation and equipment, anesthetic modalities and nursing care involved in the operating room when performing elective and complex cesarean sections. The roles of the scrub nurse and circulating nurse are practised as well as other skillsets specific to cesarean section delivery.


Note: You have to be a Registered Nurse to sign up for this course. The theory part will be online with in-class labs on the following Thursdays: June 1,8,15,22 from 8am-2pm.
