Neonatal Nursing

Course: NSG0114

Providing nursing care for newborn infants up to 28 days after birth is an area of specialization. Building on knowledge of normal transition to extrauterine life, students recognize and identify variations from normal, complete a systematic evaluation of the newborn, understand common neonatal pathologies and complications, as well as appreciate the impact of an unwell or at-risk infant on the family. Incorporating principles of family-centered and developmentally supportive care, students use critical-thinking skills and simulation-based learning opportunities to gain the necessary knowledge and skills when preparing for practice in this field.
