Purchasing and Supply Chain Management

Many organizations are recognizing the strategic importance of purchasing/supply management, and its impact on their overall competitiveness and the need for continuous cost and value management across the supply chain in a dynamic business environment. This course examines the role of a purchaser in a supply management environment. Students completing this course will have an overview of the responsibilities and current tools of purchasing managers in manufacturing and service organizations in both the public and private sectors. Topics that will be covered include: purchasing operations and structure, strategic sourcing, strategic sourcing strategies, critical supply chain elements and creating a strategic advantage. The focus is on B2B purchasing and its role in an integrated supply chain system.
