Students are exposed to modern day typographers and designers who are forging the way in type design. Focus is placed on the anatomy, design specifics, and the drawing and spacing of letterforms. Students develop original typeface designs and glyphs with the goal of enhancing their sensitivity to the shapes and uses of letters within print and electronic media. Projects include experimental type, handmade type, designing letterforms in response to particular design challenges and the creation of expressive and decorative letterforms. Students are expected to show and develop their technical skills from Typography III as appropriate for each project.
