1. What are the orientation activities for new part-time faculty?
a) Departmental Orientation
To be scheduled by the Department.- "Meet and Greet" with departmental staff
- Review of College Directives
- Overview of departmental client service standards
- Review of departmental policies and procedures
- Explanation of performance evaluation process for part-time faculty
- Introduction to other faculty and staff members
b) Orientation Program for New Part-Time Faculty
A series of five core modules will be offered as components of a comprehensive Orientation Program for New Part-Time Faculty:- Creating Positive Learning Environments (3 hours)
- Teaching is More Than Talking (3 hours)
- Getting Started With Blackboard (3 hours)
- The Nuts and Bolts of Evaluation (3 hours)
- Finding Your Way Around Algonquin College (3 hours)
2. Who should participate in the Orientation Program for New Part-time Faculty?
It is mandatory for new Part-Time Faculty to participate in all five of the modules.
3. Who is considered to be a "New" part-time faculty member?
-Newly hired part-time faculty who have never before taught at the College.
-Returning part-time faculty who have not taught at the College within the last 2 years.
4. Can part-time faculty who have taught at Algonquin College for a while but have never participated in an Orientation Program attend this program?
The Orientation Program is designed for individuals who are brand new to the College. Much of the content will not be new for experienced Algonquin faculty.
Established faculty can participate in professional development sessions, offered each term, covering various Blackboard and teaching topics. In addition, the TALL ("Teaching Adult Lifelong Learners") program provides an alternate training opportunity.

5. How does a new part-time faculty member register for the Orientation Program for New Part-Time Faculty sessions?
The new part-time faculty member can register for their sessions by logging in, using a current email address (either their personal or Algonquin College email) at:
http://lts2.algonquincollege.com/pd/Login.aspx
The new part-time faculty member will need to know the name of the Department he or she is working for in order to register.
Dates, times and room numbers of the sessions are listed on the registration web page.
6. Will new part-time faculty be paid for attending the Orientation Program?
Yes, eligible participants of the Orientation Program for New Part-Time Faculty will be paid $30 per hour for up to 15 hours of orientation activity.
7. How will participants be paid?
Participants will complete a blue time sheet during their orientation sessions. The Centre for Organizational Learning will send the signed and initialed timesheets to the appropriate departments for processing.
The Centre for Organizational Learning will reimburse departments once all the participants' timesheets have been processed.
8. For what time period do I need to create Payroll Authorization?
April 2011 - May 2011
Payroll Authorization Period is:
Monday, April 11- Thursday, May 12, 2011.
