Employees participating in the Performance Institute will
- learn to use designated voice and body language skills to enhance their speaking and communication skills,
- practice communication strategies conducive to effective learning and communicating,
- share ideas and experiences with established facilitators and speakers.
Accordingly, there are three main components to the Performance Institute:
- eight lectures on Nonverbal Communicating with accompanying practices,
- three visits to classrooms of experienced teachers (P.I. graduates),
- demonstration of new skills (a ten-fifteen minute oral and some teaching).
Note: One-on-one performance coaching is available and optional.
Employees who participate must be willing to
- attend one 2-hour class on Tuesdays from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. throughout the semester,
- visit three actual classes of designated PI teachers and do a short write-up for each,
- do a 15-20 minute oral "presentation" for the PI group,
- write a final reflective e-mail report about the Performance Institute experience.
Those who successfully complete the Performance Institute may use the PLAR process to earn credit for the Presentation Skills course (TTA5509) in the TALL Program
