Algonquin College’s Photonics degree program was developed to address an existing gap in photonics education. Photonics firms in Ottawa form the fifth largest photonics cluster in the world. An industry advisory committee, comprised of members of this cluster, assists the College in the development of ongoing program enhancements, including state-of-the-art labs that house equipment currently in use by the photonics industry. The resulting program of study is designed to produce highly-qualified graduates who are well equipped to help Canadian firms compete in the trillion-dollar global photonics industry. Algonquin’s Photonics professors use their extensive industrial experience and academic qualifications to establish and maintain close ties with photonics firms in Ottawa. As a student in the Photonics degree program, you will gain invaluable co-op work experience. Algonquin’s location in Ottawa, and the rapid global expansion of the photonics industry, provides graduates with access to incredible employment opportunities immediately following graduation.
