EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
With incidents such as the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001, the 1998 ice storm, the 2004 widespread power outage and the impending threat of pandemic influenza, the need to be prepared is paramount. The Emergency Management program prepares the student from both a strategic and tactical perspective to handle such events.
The Emergency Management program is a one year graduate certificate program offering students a comprehensive overview of the four competency domains of emergency; mitigation/prevention, preparedness, response and recovery.
The curriculum for this program focuses on the four pillars of Emergency Management. Courses such as legislative and policy framework, incident command systems; emergency management site operations; chemical, radiological, biological, nuclear, explosive (CBRNE) countermeasures; critical infrastructure protection; business continuity planning; crisis communication; regulatory issues; exercise design and evaluation will address those competencies.
Graduates can expect to find employment in government (all levels) and the private sector in such roles as business continuity managers/planners, emergency management program coordinators, emergency management planners, and as emergency response officers.
