AUTISM AND BEHAVIOURAL SCIENCE
GRADUATE CERTIFICATE
This program gives students a firm grounding in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) principles and practices and specifically in the application of ABA to Intensive Behavioural Intervention (IBI) with Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The curriculum teaches students about the range of evidence-based practices in autism treatment, the characteristics of the full spectrum of ASD, as well as child development and augmentative communication systems as they relate to the behavioural treatment of children with ASD.
Graduates of this certificate will work predominantly with children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders. They will be prepared to work as Instructor Therapists in Intensive Behavioural Intervention programs as part of a treatment team supervised by a behaviour analyst and/or psychologist.
Graduates may also be attractive to other employers such as families, School Boards, and community agencies that serve individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Admission Requirements:
Students are required to provide
proof of a successful completion of an approved diploma or degree program in
a related discipline: behavioural science, early childhood education,
child and youth worker, developmental services worker, social services
worker, sociology, psychology, child studies, education. All

Prior to clinical experience,
students are required to complete an Algonquin College Health Assessment
Form and/or Immunization Form. A Police Record Check must be completed
and on file prior to the first clinical experience.
