PROJECT MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE
PROGRAM
This program will be of interest to anyone who has to implement projects of any size, either as a manager or as a member of a project team. Post-secondary education in project management is in great demand in both the public and private sectors.
The objective of the Project Management Certificate program is to provide graduates with the comprehensive knowledge and skills they need to succeed in today’s complex project environments.
A project is defined as a group of related activities aimed at achieving a specific objective, within time and cost parameters. Projects can range in scope from implementing a new procedure at the office, to building a subway system. Project management skills are used increasingly by professionals in accomplishing their work.
Algonquin College uses the Project Management Institute’s Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) as the basis for course content and standards. The PMI is an international association of people who specialize in the art and science of project management. The Institute provides a standard of excellence for the profession.
Who should take this program?
Those already employed in a project management environment will find this program beneficial in broadening their scope and enhancing their skill set. Individuals without prior experience or knowledge in project management will also benefit. Corporate Re-engineering and Total Quality Management give rise to many projects, and those with a project management background will find themselves well-positioned.
Certified Project Management Professionals (PMPs) are automatically exempt from MGT5164, Introduction to Project Management. Other exemptions based on previous post-secondary courses are granted on a one-on-one basis.
