BUSINESS ACCOUNTING DIPLOMA PROGRAM

Distance Education - full-time online

This two-year online Ontario College Diploma program prepares students to work in various areas of accounting including financial accounting, managerial accounting, taxation, and auditing. The curriculum is designed to broaden the business background of students and to expand their theoretical knowledge of economics, law, finance, and statistics. Students are also exposed to a number of accounting and business computer software packages.


Depending upon academic achievement, graduates may be granted some credits toward the requirements of the Certified General Accountants (CGA) Association program of professional studies.

Additional Information

The Business Accounting program is available on a part-time and full-time basis, online.

Students in the part-time diploma may transfer in the full-time program and all part-time courses credited are applied to the full-time program.

To qualify for your diploma on a full-time basis, the program must be completed within 2 years.

To qualify for your diploma on a part-time basis, the program must be completed within 10 years.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates can obtain employment in the accounting departments of all sizes of businesses, all levels of government and other types of organizations. Graduates within these organizations can pursue careers in various accounting disciplines including financial accounting, managerial accounting, and taxation.

Graduates can subsequently obtain their CGA designation and become employed in senior accounting positions.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

College Eligibility

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent. Applicants with an OSSD showing senior English and/or Mathematics courses at the Basic Level, or with Workplace or Open courses, will be tested to determine their eligibility for admission; OR
  • Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) Certificate; OR
  • General Educational Development (GED); OR
  • Mature Student status (19 years of age or older and without a high school diploma at the start of the program). Eligibility may be determined by academic achievement testing for which a fee of $40.00 will be charged.

Program Eligibility

  • English, Grade 12 (ENG4C or equivalent, is required).
  • Mathematics, Grade 12 (MAP4C or a mathematics with a similar content, is required).

Approximate first year costs:

Tuition Fees: $2,840.00
Books/Supplies: $1,044.00
Incidental Fees: 0
Total: $3,884.00


Tuition fees listed are in effect for the 2009-2010 academic year.

  • Tuition Fees: $1,110.00 per term in Levels 01 and 02, $1,102.40 per term in Levels 03 and 04.
  • Information Technology Fee: $62.00 per term.*
  • Student Activity/Sports Fee: $150.50 per term.
  • Student Centre Building Fee: $17.50 per term
  • Health Service Fee: $10.00 per term.
  • Health Plan Fee: $114.50 paid once annually.**
  • A $35.00 graduation fee is payable in the final term.
  • A $25.00 transcript fee is payable in the first term a student attends Algonquin College.

International Students pay all relevant Canadian fees plus an International Premium of $4,400.00
per term.

** Students who have coverage with another plan can request a refund by supplying the Students' Association with documentation supporting the request. This request will have to be made annually.

Books and supplies cost approximately $1044 per year and can be purchased from our college bookstore online at bookstore.algonquincollege.com

Students currently enrolled in an Ontario secondary school should contact their Guidance Office to apply. For all other applicants, applications are available online at www.ontariocolleges.ca or from the Registrar's office of any Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology. An $95.00 application fee must accompany the application form. Please refer to the Ontario College Guide for details on how to complete the application form.

Applications for fall term admission received by February will be given equal consideration. Applications received after February 1, and applications for winter and spring terms will be processed on a fist-come, first-served basis as long as places are available.
