The Business Administration program provides students with the combination of
business expertise and employability skills necessary for a rewarding career.
In this program of study, students gain a solid foundation in all the business
functions as well as the communication, planning, teamwork and analytical
skills highly sought after by the business community. Through an active
advisory committee of business professionals and close relationships with
employers, the program is continuously aligned to meet the current demands of
today's organizations. These relationships provide students with networking
opportunities, as well as bringing business people to the classroom to share
their experiences.
The core courses explore all functional areas of business. Following the core
requirements, students select their major area of study among the highly
demanded professions of Accounting, Human Resources, Marketing, and General
Business.

Students in the part-time diploma may transfer into the full-time program and all part-time courses credited are applied to the full-time program.
To qualify for your diploma on a part-time basis, the program must be completed within 10 years.
To qualify for your diploma on a full-time basis, the program must be completed within 3 years.
Although the program is designed for maximum student choice, resource constraints and timetable conflicts may not permit complete freedom.
Employment Opportunities
The Human Resources major prepares graduates to pursue careers in the field of human resources management (HRM) and provides a solid foundation in all of the human resources management functional areas including: human resources planning, recruitment and selection, compensation and benefits design and administration, training and development, labour relations and the legalization relevant to human resources and organizational management.

Tuition fees listed are in effect for the 2008-2009 academic year.
- Tuition Fees: $1,060.00 per term in Levels 01 and 02, $1,050.40 per term in Levels 03 and 04,
and $1,038.34 per term in Levels 05 and 06.
- Information Technology Fee: $50.00 per term.*
- Student Activity/Sports Fee: $150.50 per term.
- Student Centre Building Fee: $17.50 per term
- Health Service Fee: $10.00 per term.
- Health Plan Fee: $123.08 paid once annually.**
- A $35.00 graduation fee is payable in the final term.
- A $25.00 transcript fee is payable in the first term a student attends Algonquin College.
International Students pay all relevant Canadian fees plus an International Premium of $4,200.00 per term.

** Students who have coverage with another plan can request a refund by supplying the Students' Association with documentation supporting the request. This request will have to be made annually.
Expenses

Vocational Standards
The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ablity to:
1. Contribute to human resources planning and the recruitment, selection, and orientation of employees.
2. Participate in the performance appraisal process.
3. Contribute to the preparation and delivery of employee training and development programs.
4. Develop strategies to contribute to an organization's success through effective employee and labour relations in both non-union and union environments.
5. Prepare, maintain, and communicate accurate information related to compensation and benefits administration.
6. Monitor an organization's work environment for compliance with current health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures.
7. Complete all human resources work in compliance with all relevant employment legislation, law, policies, and procedures.
8. Apply computer skills and knowledge of Human Resources Information Systems (H.R.I.S.) to support the human resources function.
9. Conduct research in human resources management.
10. Contribute to the development of the human resources component of a business plan.
11. Apply knowledge of the areas of accounting, finance, and economics to human resources activities.
12. Take into account the interrelation among the functional areas of the organization (e.g., operations, human resources, accounting, marketing).
13. Apply knowledge of organizational change and development to organizational structure, behaviour, and dynamics.
14. Develop customer-service strategies to meet the needs of all internal and external customers.
15. Communicate human resources management information accurately and credibly in oral, written, and graphic form.
16. Apply leadership knowledge and skills when working with coworkers, supervisors, and others.
17. Plan personal professional development to enhance knowledge of current issues, trends, and practices in the human resources profession.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
College Eligibility
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent. Applicants with an OSSD showing senior English and/or Mathematics courses at the Basic Level, or with Workplace or Open courses, will be tested to determine their eligibility for admission; OR
- Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) Certificate; OR
- General Education Development (GED); OR
- Mature Student status (19 years of age or older and without a high school diploma at the start of the program). Eligibility may be determined by academic achievement testing for which a fee of $40.00 will be charged.

- Mathematics, Grade 12 (MAP4C or a mathematics with a similar content, is required)

Students currently enrolled in an Ontario secondary school should contact their Guidance Office to apply. For all other applicants, applications are available online at ontariocolleges.ca or from the Registrar's office of any Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology. An $85.00 application fee must accompany the application form. Please refer to the Ontario College Guide for details on how to complete the application form.
Applications for fall term admission received by February 1 will be given equal consideration. Applications received after February 1, and applications for winter and spring terms will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis as long as places are available.
