Curriculum:  Documenting EES Learning Outcomes

DOCUMENTING EES LEARNING OUTCOMES

When EES learning outcomes are documented properly at the course and program level, their inclusion becomes transparent to everyone involved. Faculty are able to plan and organise their courses more efficiently. Students are able to visualize the role of a given course within a program and to submit assignments that align themselves more directly with the expectations laid out in the course outlines.

While it is true that all parts of the documentation phase are inter-related and make use of much of the same information, documenting EES learning outcomes at the course level involves ensuring that course outlines reflect the teaching and assessment that actually takes place in the course and the appropriate sections of the course outline are correct and up-to-date. To facilitate this process, the following resources are provided:

EES-ing on down the road: Some tips for updating course outlines (Adobe Acrobat File): This document discusses the three areas in the course outline where EES learning outcomes are documented and provides some suggestions for ensuring that they are documented properly.

Course Outline Cover Sheet (Adobe Acrobat File): This sheet provides a format for exploring the relationship between program requirements and the contribution that the course makes to those requirements. Drawing on material found in both the course outline and the section specific information, the connections between teaching, assessment, and reliable demonstration of outcomes should become explicit.
