| Curriculum: Mapping EES Learning Outcomes |
MAPPING EES LEARNING OUTCOMESIn many ways, mapping EES learning outcomes is the principle method of documenting EES learning outcomes at the program level. It involves the collection and amalgamation of all of the information documented on the course outline. These maps are generally completed in a tabular format, looking first at each level of the program, then at the program as a whole. Any format, however, that would allow for the tracing of outcomes through a program, from introduction to demonstration at the level of a graduate could reasonably be called a map. Once completed, the map functions as a support tool during curriculum revision periods. The contribution of a given course and, as a result, the requirements of a course or courses that may replace that course is clearer and it becomes less likely that outcomes will be "lost" during the revisions. Some sample mapping templates are provided below:
Discussion of Teach, Assess, and Culminating Performance (Adobe Acrobat File): This document can be used as a reference tool when preparing an EES Map by Program Level. Further definition of the terms should enable an easier identification of the opportunities for the demonstration of the outcomes. EES Map by Program Level (Adobe Acrobat File): This template provides a format for reviewing and mapping EES learning outcomes in each level of a program. Using the recommended notation ('T' for teaching, 'A' for assessing, and 'CP' for culminating performance) when completing the map, will make the tool more useful during curriculum review exercises. EES Program Totals Map (Adobe Acrobat File): This template provides a format for looking at the inclusion of EES learning outcomes in the entire program. Here information should be entered as numbers so that a picture of the balance and distribution of EES learning outcomes across the program can emerge. |
