Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley, in the City of Pembroke, Ontario, has been serving the upper Ottawa Valley since the Ontario College system began in 1967 and for almost 40 years, it has been located in the same facility. Now, as it experiences record enrollments, the College requires a new campus to allow it to expand and create more learning opportunities for students.

With appropriate funding and the necessary approvals, Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley plans to build Renaissance Square, an 80,000 square foot facility on a parcel of land being made available by the City of Pembroke, near its waterfront. The projected cost of the facility is $32 million and it is estimated that it would take at least two years to design and build the new campus.

Renaissance Square is seen as a new beginning for the College, the City of Pembroke, and all of Renfrew County. A new facility would allow the College to grow, allowing it to better meet the labour market needs of Renfrew County’s employers well into the future.

Of the combined 3,000 new student spaces, a new Pembroke Campus will allow Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley to add 300 more full-time student spaces and create a number of positive outcomes.  A new campus will generate significant economic growth for the entire region, improve access to post-secondary training and skills development, and most importantly, provide students with an exceptional learning and college experience.

Built near Pembroke’s picturesque waterfront and adjacent to the city’s downtown area, Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley will become a destination campus. Students will be able to take advantage of the wonderful recreational facilities nearby at Riverside Park and, with several hundred people at the College daily, new business opportunities in Pembroke’s downtown will present themselves, sparking a revival of the city’s inner core.
