The picturesque town of Perth is going to become a little greener in 2011 when Algonquin College opens a new main building on the Perth Campus which will not only accommodate 40 per cent more students, but it is designed to become the town's most sustainable building.

Minister Jim Watson announced the provincial contribution of $4.8 million to the Perth Campus Renewal Project, and MP Scott Reid announced the federal contribution of an additional $4.2 million.

The $36-million relocation of Algonquin College's Pembroke campus is expected to kick-start the economically suffering area, say several officials associated with the project.
However, the big shock for Algonquin was simultaneously having to add a new building to its Perth location – at a cost of $8 million to $10 million.

Algonquin College has approved a plan that will expand its campuses in the Ottawa Valley. The plan includes a new campus on the Ottawa River in Pembroke at a total cost of $36 million and new construction to replace a deteriorating building in Perth.
With the looming threat of an upcoming trade shortage, Algonquin College is trying to do its part to provide skilled workers to those trades
especially in need.
