Where do Algonquin College's bursary funds come from?
Both internal and external sources provide funds for our student bursary program.

Internal Bursaries:  Financial Aid administers the internal student bursary program at  Algonquin College.  Financial need is the main criterion when awarding bursaries.

External Bursaries:  The College is indebted to many external organizations and
private individuals for their contribution to our bursary fund.  These external donors offer
financial assistance to qualified students.  All decisions are made by the donor.

How do I apply?
Internal Bursary Program:
Applications for the internal bursary program are available through the Financial Aid Office, Rom C225 or your program's Departmental office.  Deadline dates apply. For additional information on these bursaries and application process, please view the Internal Bursaries Listing (available in alphabetic or by school order) on this website at the following link:
Internal Bursary Program.

To view the complete list of Internal Bursaries with specific application instructions for each listing please use the following link: Internal Bursary Program A  paper copy of the bursary application is also available from the Financial Aid Office at the College.

External Bursary Program:
Students should check the external bursary program listing on this website for instructions at the following link: External Bursary Program.

Most of the external bursaries have deadline dates and only where noted applications
are available through Financial Aid.  For most of the external bursaries you must apply
directly to the donor organization.

Who can apply?

Any student who is registered in a post-secondary program can apply for a bursary.
internal student bursary program.

How much can I receive?
This depends on:
- available bursary funds
- requests received from other students for bursary assistance
- your overall financial circumstances and total resources compared with your
  educational costs
- the amount you have requested and why you need bursary assistance.

The prime focus of bursary funding at Algonquin College is to assist students
with basic educational-related costs. These include: fees, books, living expenses,
transportation and childcare.  Other expenses may be taken into consideration in
special cases.

How am I notified about the bursary decision?
Students are notified via College e-mail of the bursary decision. If you owe fees to the College, the bursary is applied to your student account.  If you do not owe any money to Algonquin College, the bursary cheque is normally mailed to you.

Are part-time students evaluated any differently than full-time students?
The evaluation criteria identified in the section 'How much can I receive? applies
to part-time students as well.  Students who are registered part-time usually have
both lower educational costs and higher financial resources than students who are
registered full-time. Therefore, they have less need for bursary funding.

If I am an international student can I apply for bursary funds?
On behalf of the International Educational Centre at Algonquin College, Financial Aid administers one bursary, the Kayote Modeste Bursary, which is specifically designated for full-time international students who are in need of extra funds due to an emergency.  Please note that the amount awarded is very limited.  For additional information on this bursary, please check the Internal Bursary listing on this website.

What are Entrance Bursaries?
Algonquin College offers Entrance Bursaries to Full-time, First Year students enrolled in degree or diploma programs.  Entrance bursaries are awarded based on demonstrated financial need.  Successful bursary recipients enrolled in a degree program will receive a $1,000 Entrance bursary; successful bursary recipients enrolled in a diploma program will receive a $500 Entrance bursary.

Applications for the Entrance Bursary are included in your Algonquin College acceptance package.

Where can I obtain information on scholarships?
