The Algonquin College Student Assistance Bursary is a non-government funded bursary distributed each term.  Students must be registered and attending class in order to be eligible for this bursary.  Applications are submitted on-line on ACSIS during an application window period posted by Financial Aid each term on this website and on bulletin boards in front of the Financial Aid Office.

Application window periods - usually scheduled as follows:
Fall term - approximately mid-October
Winter term - approximately mid-February
Summer term - approximately mid-June.
Application forms for this bursary: available during application window periods.

Where do Algonquin College's bursary funds come from?
Both internal and external sources provide funds for our student bursary program.

How do I apply?
ON-LINE BURSARY APPLICATION:
The Student Bursary Program at Algonquin College is administered by Financial Aid.  The main criterion when awarding bursaries is financial need.

EXTERNAL BURSARIES:  The College is indebted to many external organizations and private individuals for their contribution to our bursary fund.  These external donors offer financial assistance to qualified students.   All decisions are made by the donor.  Students should check the External Bursary Program listing on this website for instructions at the following link: External Bursary Program.

Most of the external bursaries have deadline dates and (only where noted) applications are available through Financial Aid.  For most of the external bursaries you must apply directly to the donor organization. Any student who is registered in a post-secondary program can apply for a bursary.

How much can I receive?
This depends on:
- available bursary funds
- number of requests received for bursary assistance
- your overall financial circumstances and total resources compared with your
  educational costs
- the amount you have requested and why you need bursary assistance.

The prime focus of bursary funding at Algonquin College is to assist the student with his/her basic educational-related costs. These include: fees, books, living expenses, transportation and childcare.  Other expenses may be taken into consideration in special cases.

How am I notified about the bursary decision?
Students are notified via e-mail of the bursary decision. If you owe fees to the
College, the bursary is applied to your student account.  If you do not owe any money to Algonquin College, the bursary cheque is usually mailed to your Home Address as listed with the Registrar's Office on ACSIS.

Are part-time students evaluated any differently than full-time students?
The evaluation criteria identified in the section 'How much can I receive? applies to part-time students as well.  Students who are registered part-time usually have both lower educational costs and higher financial resources than students who are registered full-time.  They, therefore, have less need for bursary funding.

If I am an international student can I apply for bursary funds?
On behalf of Algonquin College's International Educational Centre,
Financial Aid administers one bursary, the Kayote Modeste Bursary, which
is specifically designated for full-time international students who are in need
of extra funds due to an emergency.  Please note that the amount awarded
is very limited.  For additional information on this bursary, please check
under the listing on this website.
