Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence

Vision

Committed to be open for business, September 2011, the Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence is a $79-million project that will add 600 new construction trades spaces and become home to a total of 2,500 cross-disciplined full-time students and 5,000 part-time registrants.

Algonquin College has a 42-year history of delivering trades training to meet industry and professional standards. The College is committed to producing the highly trained graduates the construction sector needs to address skill shortages and remain competitive.

“Building tomorrow’s skilled workforce requires action today. Algonquin College and the construction sector are working together to ensure we have the skilled and educated workforce needed to support and grow our economytoday and for generations to come.”

Robert Gillet, President, Algonquin College

The 180,000 square foot LEED certified space will be a showcase for sustainable construction practices and innovative curriculum design and delivery. The new Centre will:

  • Provide an industry hub to train and inspire our people—construction students, professors, researchers, builders and tradespeople
  • Promote the construction industry as a first-choice career destination
  • Serve as the trainer of choice for the construction and design sectors
  • Showcase sustainable construction practices
  • Offer a model for advanced design and building practices that will command international attention

“The graduates that leave this Centre will build the future of the city and help address the challenges of our aging workforce and our aging infrastructure. They‘ll become our leaders of tomorrow.”

Ron Tomlinson, President, R.W. Tomlinson Limited

Algonquin’s vision – and the vision of the Constructing OUR Future Campaign Cabinet – is to provide an environment that will encourage the engagement of students and construction practitioners in relevant, team and project-based learning – one that will effectively train the next generation of construction and design professionals.

“It is an honour to be part of the Constructing OUR Future Campaign, assisting Algonquin in expanding its ability to train the next generation of construction and design professionals. This new Centre will help attract the best and the brightest, making the construction industry a first-choice career destination."

Dwight Brown, Chair, Constructing OUR Future Campaign, and V.P. and District Manager, PCL Constructors Canada Inc.
