Student Success

Fulfilling the hopes and dreams of our students

Each year through the generosity of individuals, groups and companies over 1,000 Algonquin College students receive donor directed bursaries, scholarships and awards.

These life transforming funds allow students with limited resources, challenging situations or exceptional academic performance to complete their education and continue on the path to lifelong success.

Student Success Stories

“I cannot begin to express my gratitude for having received a financial award of achievement. I am a mother of 3 young children, and I chose to return to school in order further my education with the hope that I will be able to enter the legal field once I graduate. I have always had a strong interest in the law, and I chose to study at Algonquin College as it has one of the best legal office administration programs. The generosity of the donor will greatly help towards the cost of next semester’s tuition, especially during these unprecedented times. Throughout this pandemic, my kids have been schooling from home at the same time that I am also studying full-time, so it has been quite difficult. I have been putting all my focus into helping my kids, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA, and so I have not been able to work. So, this support is very much appreciated.”

Stacey Guertin“As a mature student returning to school from the work force to study full time, my financial situation was tight. Having to maintain household bills while studying was very stressful. The bursary funding really helped with the stress of continuing to fund my education so I could finish my two-year program straight through, and get back out into the workforce; which I did within 2 weeks of finishing my program!”

Julia“Receiving bursaries and awards, during my time as a student, both lifted my spirits and helped support me while financing my post-secondary education began to feel like a burden. Despite my best efforts to adhere to a strict budget, I discovered there were always incidental costs that could not be anticipated. My experience receiving bursaries and awards has inspired me to look into how I might be able to provide similar opportunities for other students in the future. For those bursaries where I was required to provide a letter describing my reasons for applying, I found it reassuring to know that somebody, somewhere, may identify with my situation. To then earn their consideration for an award or bursary made me feel like I had someone in my corner; someone who believed in me.”
