GEN1701 The Science of Science Fiction

Science and technology are often left lying around the landscape of many Science Fiction tales.  Through a variety of descriptions and stunning visual imagery a technophile's junkyard blurs the line between Science Fiction and Science Fact.  By setting aside a variety of literary concerns commonly associated with the study of fiction, this course will address issues of scientific literacy while it asks questions about the atmosphere, the setting and the plot devices used to make Science Fiction seem plausible.  In addition, this scientifically based and logically coherent backdrop provides an opportunity to question a variety of scientific and technological advances that are of contemporary interest.
