Philosophy

Children, families, students, and teachers: these are the essential, interrelated elements of the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program at Algonquin College. Together, we share a dedication to quality child care and education. Together, we create a dynamic community in which this dedication is fulfilled.

All aspects of the program reflect and uphold the following principles:

All individuals deserve and have a right to

  • respect
  • understanding, support, encouragement and care
  • opportunities for healthy development to their fullest potential
  • appreciation of differences (age, gender, cultural, language, religious, racial, physical, and mental abilities)
  • active learning through real experiences, discoveries and play
  • an environment that is safe, challenging and peaceful

We strive to achieve our principles through

  • open communication
  • honesty and integrity
  • collaboration
  • mutual support
  • personal empowerment
  • building trust
  • choices and challenges

Every individual in our community shares the responsibility to act in harmony with, and in commitment to, our governing principles.

“It is only with the heart that one may see rightly, what is essential to the eye.” ~ Antoine de Saint ExupĂ©ry, the Little Prince
