Health Insurance

Show your Algonquin College student card, along with proof of your health insurance (Ontario Health Card or other provincial or international health cards), for every visit to Algonquin College Health Services.

Ontario residents: You must provide a valid Ontario Health Card. If you do not have a valid Ontario Health Card, the standard fee for an appointment is $40 (cost may vary depending on the service). You can apply for a Health Card at a Service Ontario Centre (for more information, please visit the Ministry of Health website).

Health coverage from other provinces: If you are a student with health coverage from another province, provide a valid health card from that province.

International Students: You are required to show proof of your health insurance. For more information, visit the Guard.Me website. If you prefer to speak with an IEC representative, please send an email to iecinsurance@algonquincollege.com

Fees for Services Not Covered by Insurance

If you do not have proof of valid health insurance, you may be required to pay a fee to visit Health Services.

Some services are not covered by provincial/international insurance plans. The following is a list of some of these services and the corresponding fees. If payment is required, you may pay by cash, debit, or credit.

  • Sick Note: $15
  • Form Completion — Pre-Employment Certification: $60
  • Form Completion — Hospital/Nursing Home Employee: $60
  • Form Completion — Fitness Club: $60
  • Form Completion — OSAP Disability Verification Form: $30
  • Form Completion — Travel Cancellation Insurance: $30
  • Form Completion — Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL) Medical Information Request Form: $30
  • Certificate — Free from Communicable Diseases: $40
  • Driver’s Medical Exam: $100
  • Transmission of Medical Record: $20 for first 20 pages and $30 for more than 20 pages
  • Basic Visit Without Valid Health Card: $40
  • Vaccine — Hepatitis B: $30 per dose
  • Plan B: $15
  • Birth Control (Students Only): $17/pack
  • Pregnancy Test: $5/test
  • Missed Appointment Fee: $30
