Employee and Family Assistance Program

Algonquin College recognizes that personal difficulties experienced by an employee may have serious effects on their health, well-being, personal life, and their involvement and performance in the workplace.  The Employee and Family Assistance Program (EAP) has been developed to help you and your family with personal concerns, tensions and stress before they lead to more serious problems.

Effective May 16, 2006 the College has commissioned the services of Shepell·fgi to provide their professional counselling, support and information services for all of our full-time employees and their immediate family members.

Your  EAP services include:

  • Counselling, through telephone, in-person or e-mail sessions.
  • Specialized programs that focus on a range of work, family and life issues.

Confidentiality

Preserving your confidentiality is at the heart of a Shepell·fgi EAP. Their strict privacy policy goes the extra mile to ensure when you reach out for help, you can feel confident no one will ever know you've contacted your EAP, including your employer and co-workers.

Steps in place to protect your privacy mean they never:

  • Schedule two employees from the same organization back-to-back
  • Give your employer data which could identify you in statistical reports
  • Leave identifying messages at home or work

While you may consider “spring cleaning” something you do around the house, why not try sprucing up not only your work environment, but also, your body and mind to discover an on-the-job balance that really works?

We’ve partnered with our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to put together an online interactive wellness site (microsite) that offers resources and tools to help you get on a path to better physical, emotional and mental health at work.

Whether you’re looking for simple ideas to integrate healthier habits on the job, or want to overhaul the way you handle work challenges, this site can help restore your career composure and create a healthier you!

The microsite, www.shepellfgi.com/EN-CA/healthyhabits will be active from May 2nd, 2008 to May 31st, 2008.

Microsite Introduction from Shepell-fgi (Posted 26-Sep-2008)

During the month of October several Canadian and international organizations will be launching health and wellness events to raise awareness about a wide range of mental health related topics. In keeping with this theme, we’re developing an online area entitled ‘Mind Matters: Taking Care of Your Mental Health’ that will offer employees support and tips in the following areas:

  • ·   Mental Health in Real Terms: Separating mental health fact from fiction and uncovering the truth about mental health illnesses.

  • ·   Breaking Down The Barriers: Spotting the signs of mental health troubles and dealing with your mental health concerns for someone you know.

  • ·   Rebuilding and Restoring: Accessing mental health support resources and coping with the many aspects of recovery from a mental health illness.

Content on all sites will be available by Monday October 6th, 2008.


Life Changes Microsite from Shepell-fgi(Posted 8-January-2008)

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing health and productivity solutions to our customers and their employees, I’d like to share with you details around our latest ‘Microsite’.

 

It’s called  ‘Channeling Change: Healthy Hints at Every Life Stage’ and it is intended to support employees as they go through inevitable life changes. As many people look forward to the New Year as a new beginning or a fresh start, Channeling Change will provide important information on how employees can manage change effectively.

 

Some of the features of Channeling Change include:

 

  •  Tools to navigate the new rules and responsibilities of adult life with a pit stop at From Graduate to Grown Up
  • Ways to plan for the emotional, scheduling and financial realities of parenthood by landing on Plan-It Parent.
  • How to re-evaluate and revamp mid life relationships by tapping into some Middle Age Aid.
  • Strategies and plans for life’s later years via a range of sensible Senior Solutions.

 

There will be an interactive element to this site with a selection of self-directed health screening tools to help employees assess their overall health and wellness when it comes to dealing with change.
