| Part-Time Academic Terms & Conditions of Employment |
The following terms and conditions of employment have been taken directly, without modification, from the HRIS-generated letter which is provided to all new academic employees. Upon receipt of this letter, the employee should sign and return it to Human Resources Services as quickly as possible. Welcome to Algonquin College We are pleased to welcome you to Algonquin College as a temporary Academic Employee. As this is the first time you have worked at the College, as an academic employee, we would like to outline the terms and conditions of employment. The duration of your authorization, rate of pay, and days and hours of work are establish by your program department. The hourly rate of pay includes compensation for preparation, classroom/lab delivery, evaluation, assistance to students, and various administrative duties. Any changes made to the temporary authorization must be approved by the appropriate College official. The College reserves the right to change or cancel the temporary authorization at any time. You will be paid the hourly rate for the hours worked and reported on the time sheets submitted by your program department. Your cheque will be mailed to your department unless otherwise indicated. Income tax, Canada Pension Plan and Employment Insurance will be deducted from your salary payments as required by law. At the end of your assignment, you agree to deliver to the College all materials , including documents, lists, records, keys, computer programs, etc., as applicable, which pertain to the College’s business.
As an other than full time employee, you MAY qualify for enrolment in the College’s of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT) Pension Plan. You can choose to join the pension plan if, at any Ontario Community College during each of the two immediate preceding calendar years, you worked at least 700 hours, or earned 35% of the Year’s Maximum Pensionable Earnings (YMPE) as defined under the Canada Pension Plan. If you meet the enrolment criteria, you will be contacted by a Human Resources representative and given the opportunity to enroll.
Partial load employees are included in the College’s Academic Collective Agreement. Union dues will be deducted from your pay on a bi-weekly basis. As partial load employee, you are entitled to enroll in the College’s benefit plan, and you will be receiving information shortly regarding eligibility. Please indicate that you have read these terms and conditions of employment by signing and returning the bottom portion of this letter to Human Resource, Room C426 Woodroffe Campus. |
